Hi all,
Just wanted to ask the general opinon on the nikon D5000
a friend has asked me to reccomend him a decent starter DSLR
I havnt kept in the loop on the new Nikon models
Does this come with a motor?
I was going to suggest a second hand D200 or D80
but saw the D5000 in a shop with a lens for £579.00...?
Many thanks

No motor. Just the sensor/IQ of a D90 in a smaller package and a couple of gimmicks (rotating screen etc)

i'd say budget was your starting point for reccomending a starter dslr, generally i'd go for one of the more advanced bodies as if they're serious about photography the scene modes are really just going to set you back a few months in learning terms :)

however if they just want one for holidays and such the consumer bodies will be fine.

that said obviously they both take photos :)

I think they've priced the D5000 incorrectly. Yes, it might have a few things like a rotating screen but for the money, I'd rather have a D90.

many thanks guys just what i needed

x2. D90 over D5000 any day of the week. Screen WAY better and no need for AF-S lenses. I love mine! Tell mate to get a Nifty Fifty too - it's an easy way to look good.
