Nikon D5000

Morning all

I have been given a Nikon D5000 just the body with no lens. Now im not 100% sure what lens can fit this model as ive had a look at the Nikon lens and there seems to be a few with different letters behind them

Can anyone help a tall

Im looking for a good every day lens and a 50mm 1.8 ( As that what i used on my last camera but that was a Canon)

Any help would be great

Look for lens that have ''AF-S'' as I don't think that Nikon has a focus motor in the camera so you need lens that have an in built motor, ''AF-S'' means an in built motor in the lens.

Exactly what the previous poster says....to get autofocus you need afs lenses...otherwise you can use non afs....you'll just have to focus manually...but they still physically 'fit' on the camera.

Don't know if you had a crop sensor or full frame, but this cam is crop AND nikon make a nice 1.8 35mm, so you could consider that instead of the 50.

is this the type of lens i need to look out for as a every day one

Yes that will work and will give a good and stabilised wide angle option. I prefer using the 35 or 50 though

So would you use the 35 or 50 as a every day lens ?

The 35 is certainly more versatile and better for indoor use. The 50 is better for portraits outdoors. If I had to decide I would go for the 50mm and maybe add an even better portrait-lens, like a tammy 60mm f/2 or 90mm 2.8 macro later. (I have the 90mm and it's fantastic.)

I use only the 35mm on my D5100, but then I have the D700 and a load of other lenses to use too.
Id quite hapilly walk around and just use the d5100 though, just think more about what you shoot and how you compose it.
Sometimes its nice to limit yourself a bit, as it slows you down and makes you think.

My old cam was a 1000D and i used a 50mm 1.8 as my main lens. abit of indoor and outdoor shooting

Just found it a very good little all round lens

Want something the same really
