Hey guys

i have a nikon d5200 and i have just found out how to get it to bulb mode.
I would like to try some star trails next week when im in devon and i was wondering, if i set it to bulb mode is there away it will take multiple shots on its own or do i have to press the remote button each time.
also is it best to put in bulb mode or should i set it to say 30seconds?

Hi there, if you want to do star trails it's optimum to set it to 30 seconds rather than bulb and then use a locking/basic trigger that you can lock the button in the depressed position, then with the camera set to continuous shooting it will just keep taking 30 second exposures till the trigger is unlocked, the memory card is full or the battery dies :D

sorry mate, what is a locking / basic trigger? is it something i can buy in the camera shop

Yep any camera shop should stock them, basically and it makes a change to say it when it comes to camera your after about the cheapest trigger/cable release/shutter release they do most likely..

Something like this will do the job...

i have a wire less remote, guess its infra red or something.is that no good for what i want.

i thought i read somewhere that you can set the d5200 to 30 seconds and it will continue taking the shots itself or did i get it completly wrong lol which is usual for me

I know some nikon do have an inbuilt intavolmeter but I'm not entirely sure on its operation, being a canon shooter

just looking through your star trails tutorial and have to say its very good, made alot of things i was unsure of very easy to understand

I'm glad of that, I tried to make it easy to understand/accessible to everyone regardless of if you've owned your camera a week, a month or years so I'm pleasing to receive that comment, but as I said anything your unsure of I'm online a lot, and if I'm not any questions posted in the guide automatically generates an email to my phone so I generally can then come on line to answer
