Hi!

I have an issue with my D60 in that the flash stopped working a while back. It pops up fine, just doesn't flash. It's still under warrenty so I went back to Jessops where I purchased it and they said it will take around 6-8 weeks to get it fixed :| because it has to be sent back to Nikon etc etc...

I'm not one of those lucky buggers that has a spare camera :D so can't really afford to be without it for that long. So I'd rather just fix it myself, or just pay to get it fixed and have it back asap.

Firstly, does anyone know of any good places to get this fixed in the Wandsworth/Fulham area of london?

Also, anyone here ever meddle with a Nikon to try fix something like this themselves? I'm pretty ok with electronics etc, so if it wasn't too difficult I'd just do it myself. Might just even be a bulb!

Thanks FIP! Looks promising. If I could get into my camera I'd do it. Nikon seem to have welded the damn screws on so my toolkit isn't quite working :bang:

Will source a better tool and give it another bash tomorrow.

I'd be careful not to leave any signs that it has been a DIY....if something else did go wrong, I don't think Nikon would honour the warranty.
 
I sent my D90 directly to Nikon, I was told it was quicker than taking it back to Argos.
When i rang them they quoted a 2 week turn around. It took just under 3 weeks in the end, but that was due to an administrative cock up on their part.

I would not play around with a camera under warranty, just in case it needs to go in again.

Hope my dodgy toolkit didn't leave any telltale signs :D. Didn't fix it yet... But after following that video a second time I got the flash cover off, and noticed that the pin (that holds back the "lever", so to speak) seems to be shorter than the one in the video. Seems others have found this same problem in the D60s as well. You have to get further into the camera to fix the problem, so I'm not going to fumble around anymore with it.

But now contemplating getting an external flash instead. Because I have a sneak suspicion the screws look tampered with :$, so will forget about the on camera flash :lol:
 
i had this issue with my d40, think it's quite common as it's quite fragile

instead of getting it fixed by someone like fixation (i think) at a cost of £100+ i brought an sb400 flash and loved it!
