Nikon D60 lens help

NIkon D60!!

I have a nikon D60 and a sigma 70-300mm lens... i want to get picture of bird and i know that i could do with a much better lens to do so but how can i get the most out of my lens!

I find that light and distortion at high zoom is my main problem.

If i did win the lottery what is the best lens out there for my camera!?

As it stands, you could do a lot better with this than the 70-300 you have now.

I wouldn't say much much, Opticallly better in some focal lengths of sharpness and area's of vignetting etc, Sigma are a damn fine make of lenses if you want a good lens at half the price ! Canon & Nikon lenses are hard to beat for their own brand of bodies.
