Hello everyone, my internet has been down for a while so I haven't been on here much. Hopefully it should all be resolved this weekend, but we'll see!

Given my low budget at the minute, which of these 2 would you recommend? I am new to photography and looking for a good camera to learn with :)

I am particularly interested in being able to take long exposure shots.

Don't know much about the 600d. But I chose the d60 as my first camera when it first came out. I'd had a try of the d40 and what ever the Canon entry dslr was at the time and found the Nikon easiest to get on with.
D60 is a great choice for starting out in my opinion. It will do long exposures up to 30 seconds or for longer get the ml-3 remote around £10 and use that to open and close the shutter at the desired time.
May be worth looking at the d3100 as well if you want video as well D60 doesn't have that.

The 600D is quite a bit newer than the D60 so will have quite a lot better performance on paper. The true Nikon comparison would be the D3100 which can be had pretty cheaply nowadays and is a great little camera and better than the D60 (which the D3000 isn't).

So, if it were a direct choice between the two you mention I would go for the 600D but if the D3100 came into the equation I would probably get that as I'm a Nikon man.

Out if the two, to answer the question the 600D.

However, on the Nikon side I would avoid the D60 and look for a D90, a better comparison to a 600D and can be found for reasonable money now second hand. For newer bodies a D5100 or D3100 might be worth looking at.

I ended up going for a D3100 in the end as it seems like the best camera for me at the minute :) thanks for all the advice!
