With the recent release of the Nikon D3000, I have noticed Jessops have stopped selling the D60. Is this out of production or are jessops just fools?

Thanks in advance

I noticed a similar thing. Wanting to upgrade from my D60 to a D90, I started looking around. Looked at a few 2nd hand ones on here, visited my local 'independant' camera shop and visited jessops. Told them I was looking for a D90 and was informed that the D5000 'is the new D90'. Oh really, what about the fact one of my big reason for upgrading is the internal drive for AF, I quietly asked. 'The what' came the reply. Cheers and bye. £800 quids worth of camera picked up from the indy.

I think the D3000 is the D60 replacement so the D60 is likely to have ceased. cant imagine the D90 will have been discontinued, suppose it will be replaced by a D90s if recent Nikon trends continue!

Jessops are going down the drain, they are stalking less and less and also discontinued there dealings with Sigma (so I was told).

I can see the D90 being discontinued for some lame reasons or possibly just renamed with slight upgrades because Nikon have moved to 000's for the lower end camera's.

It's almost as if the more zero's after the first number equals lesser quality camera now and then the lower the first number the lower the model too, thats my theory anyways...

I hope the D90 is discontinued soon, as I'll be looking to get one in the next couple of months so the prices should fall.

The problem is that Nikon didn't look forwards they have no logical number progression for their models!!

Call the top model D1,D2,D3 etc - OK

Pro-sumer model D100,D200,D300 etc - DOH!!! What about D101,D102 (they will soon run out of places to go)

Upper consumer model D50,D70,D80,D90 - DOH! What about D200,D201,D202 (if they had kept the D1xx name they could have used D200 for this)

Lower consumer model D40,D60 - Woops bit of a problem here as they merge into the models above!!!

FF model D700 - Where is this one going?

Nikon need to start again with their model names, they have a chance here with the D3000 and D5000. Call the D300s replacement the D7000, the D700 replacement the D9000 and increment them!
