Nikon D610 - not using...what to do?

I have a Nikon D800 and a Nikon D610. I rarely, if ever, use the D610. Don't get me wrong, its not a bad camera but I just prefer my D800.

I do like having a spare camera and second body...

So if you were me would you

1. Keep it just in case
2. Sell it
3. PX it for used D800/D800e
4. PX it for an A7r at Jessops who'll give me 475 for the D610 and I'll only have to find £500 for the A7r plus metabones adaptor

The A7r is a curious thing and an awful lot cheaper new than a D810 is even grey/used/uk new.
 
I'd give it to me. I dinna hae any Nikon trash so I could use it to throw at the wife when she hacks me off.o_O
 
Get the Sony, it'll give you something different to play with and you might find you use it for different situations than the D800 so you might actually end up using both cameras.

edit: and funnily enough I have a D610 I don't use either...

I am tempted but just love the controls and layout of the D800. Sure I will learn the Sony...it is just a camera after all.

Someones got a low count D800 for sale in the classifieds and am tempted to make an offer on it...£100 less than the new Sony but then the Sony is new and a metabones adaptor will do the trick for using my Nikkor glass. Hmmm....

4. Hell no, 475 for a D610, youd be mad

You realise the A7r and metabones will be PAINFULLY slow in terms of AF right? It would be worthwhile to do research on the new system you are considering.

EDIT: Jessops dont even sell the A7r. :confused: And the Metabones is for Canon glass.

Thanks for your advice. There is that low count D800 on the classifieds that on retrospect is for me so I've put an offer on it and flog the 610.

Now I have. I started the thread before I nabbed that d800 which is working its way up to Scotland.

I was on the fence as the a7r they showed me seemed a good deal but I had my doubts. I just have nikkor glass, and the controls were baffling so when I saw that d800 for sale I knew I had to offer on it.

Pointless thread this really now as I've got what I wanted

Layout. Can't print as big, AF, lack of histogram in live view, feeling in the hands and with my lenses I carry if I hand hold with the d800 everything feels better Balanced.

That's not to say the d610 I'm selling is a bad camera but it's no d800

D800 with 1k clicks I got was £860 delivered. Grey d800 is double this and new uk d810 is £2k plus.

Cost wise this low count d800 is as good as it gets for a landscape shooter

Thanks - I'm off to look at a 610, hopefully tonight. I've been using Sony for 2 years now, and my natural 'upgrade' path would have been an A7 - it has all the things I like about my alpha camera made better and sweeter - but the FX lenses I have need an adapter, and so it would mean starting again with expensive glass. I like what Nikon have been doing with Sony sensors, and the D610 could be a good way into a different system.

I know. ;)

We're looking at a trade - if it were a cash deal then either a) I'd not afford it or b) I'd be looking harder at a used A7r. The 2 faults in the 610 for me are the lack of EVF and fixed rear screen, but neither are deal breakers. I'm really looking forward to using a bright pentaprism in sunlight again, even though I'll have no idea of what exposure the camera is seeing, which are the biggest weakness and strength of the EVF.
