Nikon D700 - how did it happen

Hi

I got back yesterday from my shoots to find that instead of shooting raw images I had taken jpgs. I can't remember altering the settings on the camera but I must have. Has anyone else had this, is there anything that makes the camera default to jpg?

Has it reset itself ? It is usualy a couple of buttons to hold down at the same time to manualy reset though...

I managed to forget I had set my camera to fine jpg to test something out and reeled off a load of shots with a view to upping the exposure when I got back... I wasnt happy to find them all as JPGs as I only shoot RAW as a rule!

Find the two green dots on the • QUAL and +/-• buttons on the left and right of the top of the camera. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to normal

Guess this kind of button combo could be pressed in a bag or something?

They are quite far apart though to be pressed at the same time by accident... however stranger things have happened at sea!

I've had this as well. It's easy done, but **** though when you come home and find out you've only got your shots in low jpg format :bonk:

If it were the reset buttons then other things as well as shooting type would have changed to default too

goodness, I would be so ****ed if that happened to me! I wouldn't say it's that difficult to accidentally change the quality settings though. Lesson learnt I guess, just remember to check your settings.

I wouldn't say it's easily done, but I did manage to switch from raw to TIFF the other week. Fortunately, I realised after 2 shots, but it just goes to show that it can happen (although I don't know how:shrug.
