Nikon D700 Purchase imminent!

OK, so after months of talking about it and boring all and sundry I have finally sold the last of my unwanted stiff (read Golf Mk2 16v and Honda Ruckus Scooter!) and now have enough for a Nikon D700 and a 70-200 F2.8.

I am in the position to buy now (IE tomorrow Morning) and my local Jesspos has a D700 at £1769 and a 70-200 VR2 at £1699. The thought of walking into there and dropping £3.5k is a bit bowel watering but however.... I am also picking up a hire lens tomorrow (14-24 from lens's for hire) to shoot a car show at the weekend.

So the question is.... Do I just bolt it on the front of my trusty D80 and go shoot it and then look for the nest internet deals for a D700 and 70-200 (which was the original plan) or do I get the D700 spending a bit more and get used to it over the next 4 days then go shoot the show (risky in case I am not as intuitive with the D700)

Part of me thinks I will regret spending the bit extra and going "local" for the gear just to force myself into getting it for the sake of it. Part of me thinks "gee you could have shot that on the D700" if I go up there withou it!!

Confused I am!!

Also any pointers on the cheapest D700 - 70-200 deals would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!:)

They are £30 cheaper on the cam and £70 on the lens. Good spot mate, I am not sure its enough to tip the balance versus the "have it in my hands for tomorrow morning" feeling though, what do you think?

I was like you,couldn't wait,but £100 goes towards the MBD10 grip for your new D700 ??
Good things come to those who wait

If you sign up to Quidco (www.quidco.com) and order from Jessops via Quidco for collection in store you get 4% cashback. Quidco are great - I've always used them. It will be worth well over £100.

I like my d700 that much I purcashed one as a back up! You won't regret your purchase. I wouldn't mind the 70 -200mm lens either :)

Go and get it. Any, if I waited I could have saved £100 will evaporate. Besides you could always negotiate with Jessops. You're gonna spend big bucks. Chances are not many of their customers walk in and make that kind of purchase.

Besides. You know you wanna !!

Can you get to Focus On Imaging at the NEC tomorrow?

D700 is £1,699 and 70-200 is £1,549 at the Jacobs stand. :)

Thats the prob, would love to get to Brum but can;t due to picking the lens up. TBH £100 is £100 and you're right it goes towards a grip, waiting is good!!

I have a third option is that I can get it airside at work but am having trouble finding out if dixons tax free actually still stock it. They say no:( but I am not inclined to believe them on the phone due to the level of retardation that was going on when I called.....

Camera price buster a reliable bunch of guys?

They are price comparison site - regularly updated - list the most reputable dealers/shops stocking Nikon, canon etc

Click on the link of the item you like and it will show you the cheapest stockists and a direct link

I had to try a few shops before I managed to buy mine last week...Calumet had stock but couldn't pricematch (to Park Cameras, a la camerapricebuster), Jessops and Jacobs had no stock, London Camera Exchange had stock and pricematched despite saying that it was selling below cost (told me the same thing when I bought a D300s from them).
