Hi

I think the way manufacturers are bringing out new bodies, you are always going to wonder if something new will be coming out in the next 6 to 12 months, I think you should buy what you want now otherwise you`ll spend your life waiting and wondering....... life`s too short...... don`t waste it.
Do be honest I think there is much higher demand for the D700 than there is for the D300 so if your hoping for a spree of secondhand D700 I think you would still end up paying similar prices as you would just now.
I know how you feel. My perfect camera would be a combination of the D700 and the D3X, so if the rumours of a D700x with a 24MP sensor are correct, and it was priced at around £2K, I'd much rather have that than a used D3 for a little more or £1700 for a new D700. Lots of 'ifs' and 'buts' though!!
I think it will be at least a year before they bring out a newer version of the D700. I think the D90 will be replaced first.
Would more megapixels make that much difference to you Photography? How large do you go with your prints?
When the replacement for the D700 does come out i think it will be considerably more expensive.
You can blow the D3/D700 up to a crazy size and they still look awesome.
I wouldnt let the 12mb hold you back.
Both are great camera and they produce stunning results when used correct.
cheers folks
i dont buy secondhand gear as i need the warranty. i would like another D700 but if its due a upgrade i would wait and keep my d2xs as a second body.
i would like more pixels as it produces greater detailed images (that y they make them).
will see what happens but u have 2 admit a d700 with 18mp+ would b the dogs
