Nikon D7000 battery grip issue

Hi Guys,

I bought a 3rd party grip for my D7000 over a year ago & have had no issues up until now.
Every-time I slide the second grip battery or aa batteries in to the actually grip, the power goes off on my camera.

I've switched batteries, so there's on problem there. When the grip cradle is empty & inserted it works fine. :-/

Has anyone got any ideas?

My 3rd party grip failed too after around 18 months. Wasn't taking the camera down like yours but the shutter button just stopped working.

The thing is that they're pretty cheaply made and I wasn't surprised that it had failed. I've just bought another cheap one to replace it with as I don't thing the genuine nikon version warrants the 5 x price tag.

I've cleaned the contacts, but will try again with some alcohol.

If that doesn't work then I'll have to buy a new one, maybe a more expensive one this time. :-/
 
Have you recently updated the firmware, Nikon have been sneaky with firmware updates lately and the latest one for the D800 apparently killed off most third party grips
 
I had a 3rd party grip for my D7000 which was fine initially. Once I got a heavier lens I kept having this issues. I replaced it with a genuine grip (no other changes) and the problem went away. I suspect the issue was flex in the grip breaking the contacts.
 
Thanks all. I've had the latest firmware for a while.
Something has struck a chord though with using heavier lenses, I did have a little flex after using my 70-200, but it still worked. :-/
I'll keep this thread updated, once I get five mins to clean the contacts & have a good look at it.
