Nikon D7000 Kit or not?

Hi,

I have narrowed down my first DSLR to Nikon D7000 which was a tie with the Canon 7D.

Now I need to decide whether to go for the Body or Kit.

Is the 18-105 any good?

If not I am thinking about getting the body and then the following:

Nikon 35mm 1.8
Nikon 55-200mm 4-5.6

It's all pretty subjective, but I'm quite fond of the 18-105. Ok it's not as sharp as my 35mm, but it's 10 times more useable because of it's range. I find it pretty sharp; and it's a great, versatile walkabout lens IMO. It does suffer from a little barrel distortion at the extreme wide end, but it's not so bad, and easy to correct in PP. I have 'better' lenses, but it gets more use than any of them, and is always my fallback option when I want to travel light.
 
How about buying body only and picking up an 18-200 or 18-300?

This will give you a great range of focal length whilst you get to grips with the camera and find your preferred subject/style, then you can buy a more specialist lens later on.
 
Strangely enough I have been thinking about doing just that do did some research last night.

Is the Sigma 18-200mm OS any good? Some people give it some good reviews. I know it has some creep however it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Nikor.
 
Yes the sigma 18-200 isn't to bad at all. Its not as good a the Nikon but its less than half the price. No super zoom is amazing so a cheap one like this could be kept for holidays etc.. when you buy more specialist lenses.
