Nikon D80 advice

Currently using a Canon 5D Mk1, fancy a change to the likes of a Nikon D80.

Anyone use a D80 body with good results etc? Any advice most welcome!


I find shooting in strong daylight with the 5D I've to compensate under-exposure by at least one and a half stops very often, crap.

The D80 wasn't DSLR of the year 2006 for nothing, however 2006 was a long time ago in camera technology.

If you've no need for Live View, video, or superfast FPS, then it's a cracking camera. Direct controls for almost everything, built in wireless flash, etc..

Exposure outdoors does tend to be a little bright for my tastes, so I have exposure compensation set to -0.7 as a starting point.
It's also not full frame, which might be an issue at high ISOs. Personally, I've had good results with it, but one of the areas where it was criticised was the amount of noise at high ISOs.

With the D90 on it's way to being made obsolete, the D80 hasn't held it's value at all, and I've seen bodies for sale for £200. However, I've also seen the D200 going for not much more.
They're more or less the same camera, with the D200 having the usual semi-pro features of metal body, faster FPS, etc.. but D200 is a bit more restrained in it's production of JPGs. The D80 absolutely loves strong colours.
