Hi all, I only have a little D80 and want to see about a secondhan hand lens or something to take with me on hols next week. I only have a 28 200 VR which is too big to carry round for a general holiday, it keeps slipping down the barrel. Can anyone suggest something smaller, to carry.. more for landscape, going to Austria. I dont mind going out to be new, if somene could suggest something within my range.. ie, I couldnt afford.justify the 20-70 2.8! but would rather pay little more for sharp pics etc. sorry this is a bit vague.,

Do you mean the 18-200 VR? That would have been my suggestion for a travel lens. Perhaps the Tokina 11-16 or the Sigma 10-20 would be worth consideriing if you'll be mainly doing landscapes, but there's nothing else really in the 18-200 range without going to the likes of Sigma and that'll be no better than what you already have....

Yes I did mean that 18-200. sorry, it has ben the only lens on my camera singce I purchased. it. thanks for the adivce, think will stick with this then.. and an elastic band to keep it in place!

Must be one of the early ones you've got then, the elastic band isn't needed on them nowadays as they've tightened things up to prevent the creep.

Smithy, I sold my 18-200VR, as you know . . . to heavy, zoom creep. Went to the 18-70 old kit lens originally supplied with the D70. You have seen some of my recent D40-D5000 pictures . . . all taken with the 18-70m cracking lens, metal mount, sharp as a tin-tack, good colour, I'm very happy with it.

Not expensive s/h, although people are beginning to appreciate them, not so many about now.

I don't think the 18-200VR is BAD as all. It's not so heavy or big at all, there are many heavier lenses out there.
If you still think it's heavy, and you don't mind carrying around many lenses, take the 18-55 + 55-200vr, otherwise, I don't think there's a better idea...

I like the Nikon 16-85mm VR. A bit wider than most of the kit lenses, and a bit more zoom than the 55-70mm 'norm'. It's the wide end that makes the most difference in comparison to the Nikon 18-70mm. ;) The VR comes in handy as well.

When I've been on holiday it's the lens I use 90% of the time.

thanks all, will look at the options. thanks for your comments, and will post some pics when I get back.
