I'd agree with this ^^^. The difference in price is enough to get the Nikon 18-70 F/3.5-4.5G AF-S DX, which by all accounts is a fantastic lens. I had the D50 before my D700, and I also had the 18-70 on it as well. Excellent combination.
Sure the D80 probably has slightly better ISO noise handling, and the front command dial, and indeed more in body controls (admittedly, these were some of the aspects that made me upgrade), but for the price, the D50 is an excellent camera, and perfectly capable of taking most things you can throw at it.
