Hi all.

I was wondering what the d80 was like compared with the d5000.
I know nothing about the d80, so would also like to know if its af or af-s.

thanks Ben.

well.....

why not try "Google" first......and you will get Ken Rockwell (c).....

"this"

tried google, seems most of the reviews just go on about the camera itself, not against the d5000. just the d90. thought I might get some where on here.

Given the choice I would have the D80 with it's built in focus motor and access to more lenses. I HATE the focus motor issue on Nikons !!!

EDIT: Get a Badger 1

try "Nikon D80 v D5000" will give plenty...........

The D80 is a great camera, I had mine for 2 years, sold it for £246.. and bought a D90, the D90 ISO performance is superb compared to the D80, but I really could hardly fault it at all. As said above works with focus motor too.

just over a week ago I traded my D5000 for a D80 and it was the right choice for me as I only needed a camera and was missing the 2nd lcd screen from the D50 & 10d I had and of course the focus motor widens the lens choices.

you have to really choose them as different cameras, you cannot compare the 2, D5000 has a great liveview with really good LV focus, HD recording which again works quite well, shares alot of the inners of the D90 and is compact and light. it is a very popular choice in camera.

the D80 is bulkier heavier with 4 year old tech but as mentioned by others a damn fine camera, I certainly prefer it as I relate better to the 2nd screen and didnt need liveview or recording and I prefer a bulkier heavier camera.
