Nikon D90, 300mm f4 & 1.7 converter combo

Hi

I am considering this combo. Using it for aircraft and birds. Does anyone have experience? Does the combo AF fine?

Any examples appreciated

I have been told this is much better imaging than using an 80-400 but would like some experienced views

I'm using the 300mm f4 & nikon 1.7 but on a D300 body. I love it & never take it off my cam. Of course the AF is a tad slower than without the tc but i don't find it affects my bird shots.

I have some recent pics taken with it on my flickr with exif intact if that helps?

I will have a look at your Flickr. I have a d90 and D7000 and am considering the 300. I already have the 1.7 for my 70-200 which is a great combo too

It works really well on a D300

I have owned the 80-400, whilst a fine optic, the 300/4 AF-S + 1.4 or 1.7TC would be my choice of the two.

Hmmmm I see a lot of superb reviews for the combo on the d300. Is there any reason why it wouldn't work on the 90 or 7000?
