just starting to play with my D90 and 35mm f1.8 a little more now (or when I get a chance)

most shots are of my 14 month who's walking about, so want to take some nice outisde, autumn shots

would any filters be worth considering?
never used any filters, any advice?

I always have a uv filter fitted to my lenses to help protect the glass, I know some don't recommend them but it is extra security.

You have fast glass so try to make use of the golden hour just before the sun goes down. Toddlers love playing with the autumn leaves on the ground and make lovely shots.

Have fun.

what does a uv filter bring advantage too?

Filters are useless with digital, just edit in post production.

Simulating a circular polarizer or neutral density gradient isn't so easy. All others could be done in photoshop. But then again, maybe you'd like to have more work done in camera and less in photoshop.
