Nikon D90 equipment

Hi

I am looking to buy a "studio kit" to take photos of my children. I have no idea what is available or what sort of thing I should be looking for. When I have had photos taken of my children in the past, the general set up seems to be two umbrellas, a flash box, a white background drop and a lead which goes from the camera to the laptop.

I would appreciate any help or advice on what exactly I should be looking for.
