Nikon D90 ISO question

I used to have a Canon 450D and iso started at 100 but the D90 is defaulted to 200 iso (dont know why) I think in the settings theres a way to get it down to 100 iso default but my question is should I do that? or why shoudn't I do that?

Any help/advice appreciated
 
200 is the lowest native ISO of the D90 sensor. You have the LO settings, but these are best avoided unless you specifcally have to have lower than 200.
 
As 100 ISO is a simulated setting (base is 200 ISO) it's not worth doing unless you need to in order to avoid overexposing, for example using max shutter speed, large aperture in bright conditions.
 
why is it not worth doing? does it degrade the image at all?
 
no - it means there will in theory be a degradation of the image - you just might need a microscope to notice.
