I know from a previous question that I can use my Sandisk Ultra 2GB card in the D90 (which I haven't got yet) just to get me going, but what would be the best type and make of card to get the best out of the D90. I only do general photography and don't specialise in anything particular so don't necessarily need the fastest or most expensive. I don't understand the thing about "class 10" etc.

I bought a Sandisk extreme pro from EBay for £22. Shot jpg last weekend. Worked brilliant taking 20 shots at a time. Before than I had a standard Sandisk and was fine for landscapes on my D90

Class is a general nomenclature that some use. You can look up an equivalence chart of class vs actual transfer speed.
In my D90 I see no difference between Class 4 and Class 6. Same for my USB card reader. That tells me that in a D90/SD/USB1.1 system the bottlenecks are the D90 writing to the card (i.e. buffer size) and the USB.
Go class 6, 8 GB (or 16) and a named brand and be done with it.
