Nikon D90 > Nikon D7000?

I've heard some damn good reviews about this camera but do you think it's worth upgrading my D90 for it? I've researched quite a bit but to be honest I'm still on the line about it. I'd probably rather save up for my Nikon 24-70mm lens.

Whats your opinion?
 
I think, by your last sentence, that you've already convinced yourself to get the 24-70. So I'll just add my vote on that one.
 
Definitely go with quality glass; I think that it might be good to upgrade the D90 to the D7000 successor :) That's what I'm aiming for!
 
From what I've read the main difference that you would see in the D7000 is when you start pushing it past ISO 1600. So might be better off with the glass...

As Quoth, the Raven says, it's sometimes good to see what every other generation has to offer.
 
Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but go for the glass! ;)

You can always upgrade at a later date if you feel necessary, but the 24-70 will give you more options in the future too i.e. FF :D
 
I'd go for the lens. I'm currently sitting on my credit card to stop me buying one right now...

To be honest I'm considering whether I might benefit from the Canon lens line up, their quality primes are cheaper than the Nikon equivalents, and I do love a good prime!

What are you reasons for wanting to upgrade? And what is your current lens line up like?
 
The D7000 has quite a number of advantages over the D90 which I am sure you are aware of. It really a question if whether things like better AF, metering, High ISO performance will make a bigger difference to your photography or the the 24-70 will.

Depending on you current set up and needs I would go with the lens as financially it's a better investment and the D90 is still a great camera. Whether it's camera,TV's or computers I really don't think anyone needs to upgrade every time there is a new product line. Ultimately the differences are marginal....the marketing dept's tell you otherwise though.
 
There's no doubt Canon glass is cheaper- but with longer lenses you'll look like a dork as the black, white, red, black look is just not aesthetically pleasing.

So, Nikon glass is dearer and is really based on the reassuringly expensive model rather than any real science but at least you look good.

Just suck it up and keep the faith:D

I see little point in upgrading to the D7000 from the D90- certainly for the things you are shooting. An upgrade to full frame or the fabled D400 would be a more sensible idea- even then, having a specific requirement that necessitates it is useful rather than upgraditits which is what you seem to have.

Anyone can buy the latest and greatest body but if there was no need it changes nothing but your bank balance.
 
I'd go for the glass too. The D7000 is going to be better than the D90 in lots of little ways but I can't help thinking that quality glass is going to make a much bigger difference. If you didn't have a D90 already, maybe it would be a different matter.

Tbh I just like its new features. And the fact that it has video auto focus is a big plus, although I don't use video very often it would just be nice to have. I guess I don't really need to upgrade as the D90 will still suit my needs, but I must admit it's very tempting lol.

As for my lenses-
Nikkor 18-200mm
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro
Nikkor f/1.8
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8

Not doing too bad for lenses. The Tamron, at the moment, suits most of my needs but I desperately want to replace it with the Nikon version for that overall stunning quality (I love my shallow DOF).

That reminds me of a video I saw on Digital Revs channel called "What's better? Good camera and poor lens or vice versa"... turns out the poor camera with good glass won the battle as the picture quality was superb (which is my big thing).

Ah.. I think overall I'm definitely going to have the Nikon lens as my first priority.

Yeah you have a point there. Plus, thinking about it, if I wanted to upgrade I should go the full mile and get the D3s. :lol:

Yep, but there is just something nice about a new camera body as a temporary cure to the upgraditis! :D
 
Well a new lens should keep upgratitis at bay as well

I have a D40 so there is plenty for me to gain from an upgrade to a D7000, but the distance from the D90 to the D7000 is not that huge.

When thinking about upgrading bodies (and glass), the key point to think about is what the upgrade will do for you. The D90->D7000 transition will give you a bit more resolution, a couple more fps, better autofocus abilities, better high-ISO abilities, and a few other things. Ask yourself, which of those attributes of your D90 are holding you back?

Also I'm curious, why the 24-70 and not the 17-55? I'd have thought the latter was a much more useful range on a crop camera.

Well because I like the fact that the 24-70mm zooms in that little bit more.
