Nikon D90 shutter squeak

Afternoon folks.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a problem that seems to have developed with my beloved nikon d90. I was out in snowdonia at the weekend and the shutter seems to have developed a slight squeak almost like the shutter needs oiling. I have done some googling and can't really find any information on it happening with cameras generally aside from one particular canon model which was relatively easily fixed by the owners themselves.

I have contacted a few companies regarding a repair including the nikon repair centre but the quotes i have received so far range between £100 and £145 (for a 4-5 year old camera i might add). The thing that makes me think the shutter itself is actually ok and just needs lubricating is that there has been no performance loss at all, image quality is still fine and i am finding no delays with shutter release etc.

Is it something i should be treating as a problem or is it something that many people find happens over time and it will be ok if i don't send it away for repair? In terms of shutter actuations without checking for exact numbers it has only taken approximately 10000 shots (largely because in the last two years I just haven't been able to get out as much as i would like) which isn't really a lot :S.

I am pretty technology savvy normally and happy to take things to bits within reason, but if it is a particularly complex job i really don't fancy making a balls up of this and leaving myself with a big bill to right my wrong doings!

Any help would be appreciated!
