Yes
Just bought it today as well.

Been using the D90 since i got it at home, and ive been getting an "err" error message coming up on the screen and 2 seconds later the camera would just switch off. Wouldn't come back on. Took the battery out and back in, still wouldnt come on. Waited 10 minutes. Put the battery back in and the light comes on, i turn it to ON on the dial and it just cuts out and loses power. Looks like another trip to Jessops in the morning.

Anyone had this happen before?

Check the position of aperture ring on your lens? Also, try to clean / blow your memory card / card slot.

Yeh i've charged the battery lol. First thing i did.

When i turn it on now, with or without the lens, with or without the memory card. Well when i put the battery in first of all, and the dial in the off position. A green light flashes beside the screen at the back and the smaller screen at the top a 3 digit number comes up fine. When i THEN turn the dial to ON it just completely cuts out all power.

So wont even come on now. Im gutted. Will take it back to Jessops tomorrow. I know no other Jessops in Glasgow have it in stock. So they will most likely order in a replacement for me.

Try to charge it again. For 10-15 minutes, then try again.

Been doing that for the past few hours Sebastian. Charge, in and out, charge, in and out. Still nothing. I have a feeling it may be a camera malfunction. Was getting a constant Error message on screen and now it wont turn on...

On the top right of the camera (next to the small LCD) there are two buttons (+/- and AF) with green dots next to them. If you press these simultaneously that will reset the camera to the factory settings, just in case it's something you've accidentally changed that's causing the problem....

Just tried that Graham, still nothing. The camera is getting no power at all now.

:(

Ok, when the camera was turning on, what strength was the battery indicator on the top lcd showing and was it static or flashing?

It was full and was static. When i got the camera, i checked the battery level it was anout 1/4. Left it to charge and it was full by the night then the problems started

My first thought was that it sounded like either a discharged battery or that the battery wasn't making proper contact with the camera. The fact that it's now totally dead makes me think it may just be a battery problem, but as it's brand new I would simply take it back. If they don't have one in stock you could always try Jacobs or better still Merchant City Cameras in Parnie St....

Will try Jacobs. I know Jessops dont have any more in stock checked there website yesterday and just one that i got today.

Also when i was working i noticed the camera had been taken out in the store because there were quite a few pictures from in the store on the camera. Surely this must mean i was given a demonstrator that they use which should not have been the case.

I will see, i may just tell them to get me a replacement in. As much as i would like it immediately replaced tomorrow, only way that will happen is if they give me a cash refund. I paid part from my debit card and part cash. If they refund the debit card im sure it will take a few days to refund. So just getting a replacement may be quicker unless its a cash refund.

That sounds as if they have given you the display model, Jessops are notorious for that - take it straight back and demand a refund. It's also worth checking John Lewis as they have some Nikon DSLRs in stock and you can haggle with them if you're going to get the display model (which should be ok in there), I talked them into knocking £50 off my D40 because it was the one out the cabinet :D

I would def ask for a refund or swap for another brand new body. If you do go for a refund, I think Jessops will refund you the same way you payed for it.

I certainly would like to think the likes of Jacobs etc would price match Jessops if they are more expensive.

Hope you get it sorted..

Thats an old trick Jessops use ,selling "used " cameras as new. They tried the same with me with a D300 , for those not in the know they would have accepted the camera from an opened box fully charged battery and no protective rear screen cover. When I did an Exif check the camera had several hundred photos taken with it. So I took it back and their excuse was they got it in from another store and didn't know the past history of the camera.

My advice is if the camera box seal is broken leave well alone its either an ex demo or something. Unless it is clearly marked up as ex demo -second hand - or something like.

If you made the purchase as new and it was as above "used" ,the shop could be in serious trouble as its misrepresentation and the sale of goods act comes into force. Trading standards should be informed

Yes, the last time I bought a Camera, we sorted everything out and the salesperson went to get it from the store cupboard, the first had a seal broken, I refused to take it - he said he had just opened it in the store room to check everything was there. After about 5 minutes of him trying to convince me, he went to get another one and as he went in the store room door, I reminded him not to open it in the store room, if looks could kill

Anyway, a new sealed one arrived and he didn't want to open it as everything should be there :thinking: Needless to say I opened it to check.

I always now ensure the item I will be receiving is a sealed unit - unless otherwise stated

Take it back. If it is this temperamental now you don't want this camera in 11 months time! Doesn't really matter why it is like this. You don't want a brand new camera misbehaving.

If you could order one from their shop dispatched from their online warehouse then it won't have been used as a demo model.

Yes they do at least all mine have been sealed even the lenses are.

They must have been sealed by the retailer then, because (as I said previously) the only Nikon boxes that get a seal on them are the refurbs.

Either that or Warehouse Express have just sold a huge pile of refurbs/open box returns....:naughty:
