After some deliberation & some welcome input from here i was going to settle for the nikon d3100, however some places have suggested that the 3200 is going to replace it - does anyone know if this is the case or will the 3100 carry on ?
 
The d3200 has been out for a while, the d3100 hasn't been officially replaced, its still available at most camera stores. Both are excellent cameras.
 
Depends if you want the extra resolution.. I'd rather buy better glass and skimp a little on the body. Not that the d3100 is skimping, its a cracking body for the money.
 
The d5100 is better still and not as expensive as you might think
