nikon DX 50mm f1.4 is it a myth?

well, i have decided i want a 50mm f1.4 lens for my nikon D80 but as my nikon d80 is DX (APS-c) format i'm not sure they make them as i looked on nikons website and it is only for FX but do or have nikon made this lens and if so where can i get it or if you have one i woul be very interested in buying it. Thanks, mark.
 
Full frame lenses work as normal on Dx bodies, it's the other way round that has issues.
 
I use a 50mm F/1.4 on my D90.

Yes the 50mm on the cropped sensor is like a 75mm on 35mm.

If you want cropped equivalent of 50mm on 35mm, you want one of the 35 f/1.8 lenses.

Yes, an F/1.4 will be an F/1.4 whether it's on DX or FX, the only difference is that the Depth of Field will be slightly different between FX and DX.
 
i think it will because f stop if i remember is focal length divided by diameter of apperture ring (mm) so it will but its cool. thanks for advice though, i'd really like the capability to go down to f/1.4 o a 50mm though :/ do you know if they came on the D1's because they were DX format?

The Focal length is 50mm whether it's on FX or DX. You are only seeing "less" when on DX because of the smaller sensor, hence you think it's zoomed in.

A f/1.4 lens is f/1.4 whether or not it's on FX or DX.

The focal length of the lens does NOT change, 50mm stays 50mm whether on FX or DX. What changes is the field of view due to the 1.5X crop factor of DX. Therefore the maximum aperture will stay f/1.4 on DX.

Yes, as mentioned above there is the 35mm F1.8 DX lens which is intended to give a 50mm equivalent field of view on a DX camera. Alternatively any of the other 35mm lenses will also give a 50mm equivalent field of view.

Isn't there a 35 1.8?

1.4 -> 1.8 is very little difference. Get the 35/1.8.

50mm/1.4 on a DX sensor is more akin to what you'd normally get from an 85/1.4... ie portrait / short telephoto.
 
30mm f1.4 on sigma (buy new tho) (around 300ukp)

50mm f1.4d (around 220ukp)
50mm f1.4G (around 300ukp)

I think there are wider, depends on what you are shooting. Perhaps a 20mm or 24mm but you'd need to look online or find a store with some in to try.

If you have a second hand store nearby, try going there and trying the lenses.
