Hello everybody
I own nikon d40 camera and i think of change to canon d500
my question is if my lens will work with this camera I understand I will need to buy Adaptor Ring for it but how about the autofocus and (vr) system on my nikon lenses?

So if you using canon camera with nikon lens please let me know if this is good solution or it will be better if i sell the nikon lenses and buy canon one

many thanks

Sorry for my poor English

Chris

The simple answer is, sell the Nikon lenses and buy Canon ones

I would like to keep this nikon lenses I bought them not long ago brand new if I will try to sell I will lose lot of money

So if autofocus and vibration reduction will work on canon body I will prefer to stay with nikon lenses

Chris

I believe you can get an adaptor but the one I'm thinking of means that you will only be able to manually focus them.

No idea about metering but I'm guessing manual as well.

PS Stick with Nikon

Get a Nikon body instead of the d500 if you don't want to sell the Nikon glass?

Be very wary of puting Nikon lenses on a Canon body.

There is an adapter to permit the lenses to be physically mounted on a Canon body, but bear in mind:-

There is no electrical contact therefore the lens will not communicate with the body.
Worse than that - there is a risk that the rear element in some lenses may strike the camera mirror.

Sounds like a bad idea, Chris.

AF will not work
VR will not work
and there's a fairly good chance that you won't be able to adjust the aperture either.

The only solution is to sell the Nikon lenses and buy Canon ones instead.

Which is what I said in the first place

Why the sudden change to Canon, when you bought the Nikon lenses not long ago?

the reason I want to change for canon is I think canon d500 is better camera then nikon d5000 better video quality more pixel sensor
and I can sell my nikon d40 body to my friend in very good price thats why I'm thinking of buying canon camera

But you guys say that nikon lenses will not autofocus on canon body so I have no choice I need to go for nikon d5000

Thank you very much for all comment

regards

Chris

Pixels aren't everything.
Why not buy a proper video camera?

He won't get the lush DOF with a 'proper' video camera - unless he wants to spend £thousands :) If creative video is his thing then that's pretty important!

I have a proper camcorder jvc gz gd7 and I also know pixel are not everything

I Like very much nikon camera that's why i bought three lens for it 35mm 1,8G
55-200vr and 18-105 vr but I personaly think canon d500 is better camera then nikon 5000d but if autofocus will not work I will stay with nikon

My question was if is possible to use nikon lenses on canon body using ring adaptor

I can buy canon d500 for 460 gbp with standard lens kit
and nikon will cost 490 gbp
Is not much price different but canon record full hd video and have more mega pixel

so please don't ask why I want canon instead nikon

Hi Chris, it's a strange request/thought process, move over to Canon but keeping the NAF lenses. Adaptors are useable but you really won't get the best from the lenses you have because the AF and VR won't work and metering will have to be done manually. It's a bit of a no-brainer really to stick with a Nikon body. You obviously don't want to for some reason but TBH, you'll have a decent body if you move to CAF with pretty pointless lenses; manually focussing using a 55-200mm (especially at the long end) will be a pain, as will using the 35mm at low apertures like f/1.8.

Please don't take some of the comments posted as trying to bully you into a decision, but it does seem you're going about things the wrong way. Megapixels are all well and good (as is video resolution) but they are not the entirity of a modern DSLR. If it's cost your thinking mostly about then why not look at a 2nd-hand Nikon body so you can use the lenses as intended? There will be D5000s knocking around for well under your budget.

Wouldnt buying a decent adapter for your nikon lenses just equal the money lost on selling uour current nikons and buying canon lenses?

If you want to use your Nikon lenses, stick to Nikon bodies. If you want a Canon body, get Canon lenses.

Obviously not the answer or advice you want, but it is my honest opinion.

So probably the best idea is to sell my d40 and buy nikon 5000d before my friend change his mind:)

And all my lenses will work fine with this body

But I still want to have full hd even with 20 fps only :)

thank you all for comment
Chris
