I know with most of my nikons, they under-expose ...should i program the camera to alter this by a few stops...is this the normal thing to do...or should i just use this when needed,this is for spot metering....thanks, mark.

Use the histogram to determine whether o use any EX Comp. Alsway shoot RAW and try to expose to the right of the histogram as upto 60% of the highlight detail is held in this part.

yes because it is, a bit hit or miss, Ill think I will leave it alone ...have to just get used to using the histogram...mark

I find that my D700 over exposes in some situations by +0.3 I've never heard of Nikon constantly under exposing!

My D90 is spot on, as was the D40, it mostly depended on the light I was shooting in rather than the camera itself

yes it does seem that way...
