Nikon fit lens questions

A friend with a D80 is looking for a longer lens for wildlife shots (he holidays in Africa). I suggested a Sigma 150 - 500, as these can be had new relatively cheaply, but he's keen on sticking with Nikon, and has found this lens on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....04754&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

Does anyone have any opinions on this lens please ?

It's a good lens, around £1000 -£1200 new and works well with handheld due to the VR. It's not compatible with the newest 2x teleconverter, needing an older TC200 to avoid damage to the rear glass.

They are not the fastest to focus either, I had one for a long while and liked it, but the AF is very slow.
