Hi all,

I've been using Canon for a while now and very happy with results I've been getting..

Anyway, was having a chat with a friend who has Nikon and tbh got a bit lost when they were describing names etc for their Nikon fit guide! :bonk:

Canon has EF and EF-S and previously had FD fit...

What are the NIkon equivalents??

Basically all nikons fit on current cameras. The difference is in functionality as some have a focus motor built in (AF-s, AF-I) while some don't (AF, AF-d). Also, there are manual focus lenses which are Ai (not AF). With AI lenses, you can have AI-s and AI-p, but I don't know the difference.

There is also the various alphabet soup like all manufacturers have. Pertaining to the above fitment, 'G' means no aperture ring.

Forgot, there is also DX which means that it is designed for crop sensor formats and only projects a small image circle, not usually enough to cover a full frame sensor.

It confused me when I switched from Canon. I asked what defines the pro range...'look at the prices' I was told.

It turned out to be the right answer..
 
Most of the Nikon "Pro" glass is f/2.8, this is pretty much the only way of telling apart from the price!
 
So is there any Nikon glass that won't fit, or have all operations on the current DSLR bodies?
