Nikon fit prime wide angle

I've got a Nikon AF-S 18-70 f4.5.

I would really like a wide angle prime. I've been really pleased with the results I've obtained using 35 and 50 mm AFD primes.

I can't afford/justify splashing out on a new wide angle prime, so I'm looking at older AIS lenses.

Is this worthwhile? Is IQ potentially going to be any better than with the 18-70 I already have at it's widest?

What is your budget?

I bought a Sigma 20mm f1.8 which is really very good and my only non Nikon lens.

I'm working out whether it's something worth saving up for.
