Nikon fit wide angle lens recommendations.

Nikon 10-24
Tokina 11-16
Tokina 12-24
Sigma 10-20
Tamron 10-24

Seem to be the popular ones.

I use a Nikon 10-24mm myself :)
 
Assuming you're thinking 'ultra wide'? I use the Tokina 11-16 on my D300. Super sharp and built like a tank. Also constant 2.8 if that's any use to you. Not the cheapest but I'm over the moon with mine. Let me know if you'd like to see any example shots.

There is also the Sigma 8-16 which is meant to be super sharp fut cannot take filters.
 
I find that super wide angle lenses often leave you with an image that has lots of small things a long way away. IMHO 18mm is wide enough for most things (possibly with the exception of architecture) and I often just shoot 3 or more shots and stitch them in PS. My walkabout lens is the Nikon 18-135mm which is pin sharp and costs very little.

same here. Tokina 11-16mm. build quality and optics - outstanding. F2.8 all the way. pin sharp.

I recently bought the Tokina 11-16mm and I'm very happy with it :)
 
+1 for the Tokina 11-16 :thumbs: ... cracking bit of kit imho
 
I love my sigma 10-20.
