I believe "Sunny Sixteen" was first thought of in California.
They get a different sort of sun to the UK !
Most people describe "Sunny Eleven" as UK equivalent.
As FC2 alludes to above.

Well I don't particular use sunny 16 as other factors could be involved e.g. a "smokey" city or on a high hill in the clean air on the west coast of Ireland.....but always notice the sun is brighter in Ibiza compared to sunny South Bucks on a clear day.
