Nikon focussing

Yes
Really embarassing and basic question, but the handbook only deals with how to take the picture, not the mechanics of the camera.

The camera is a D70s. When using AF-C is it necessary to depress the shutter release halfway to initiate focussing, and is it necessary to continue to hold it there for it to follow focus?

I suppose what I'm really asking is will the camera continue to focus (and meter) in AF-C with the shutter button released?

Like I said, very basic but the manual isn't clear on the matter.

Hi, you will need to keep your finger slightly depressing the shutter release for it to continue focusing

Yes you have to press and hold the shutter half way fir focusing. The meter is usually separate and works independently from the shutter button. Most stay on for a small amount of time after the shutter is touched, but focus only works with a half press of the shutter.

So if I set the AE-L/AF-L button to AF-L and the focus mode to AF-C, it will continue to track focus all the while the back button is held down?

Yep!

Yeah I do that on my D7000 when shooting sports ...... it make life hell lot easier because the subject keep moving and i have to wait for the right moment to press the shutter.

Do any of you guys keep this setting on normal use as well? because i realise after i change this setting the shutter button is only a shutter button and the back button become focus only.
