NIKON fx users whats the verdict on the 24-70mm F2.8?

i only have one zoom the 70-200mm F2.8 mk2

the more i use it the more i love it [even though it gets heavy after a day of carting it around]

so whats the 24-70 like does it feel as heavy and is the image quality/feel the same as the 70-200mm?

its a lens i feel i must try at some time,but i have lots of primes that allready cover the distances. :)
 
Not as a heavy, but as well built. Perfect partners to eachother. IQ is among the best you will find.

I can second that. Is very good on my D300 and even better on my D3.
 
It's the lens that lives on my D3 much of the time. To be honest the weight doesn't really bother me, although others note this as an issue for them. For studio work it is perfect for me. It's lovely and sharp with fast and accurate AF... what more could you want :thumbs:
 
I have no issue with weight, and mine is great!!! IQ is almost that of my 50mm prime.
 
:thinking: Keeps my coffee from spilling out everywhere esp after pouring it from my 70-200 vrII thermos...... eek: Oooops sorry, wrong lens's....

I wish I had tried it in comparison to when I owned the "beast" (Nikon 28-70) as I may have saved myself a few hundred quid in the upgrade :$ but then again I had the "beast" on a D300s & not the D700 I own now..
 
Somebody mention 'The Beast' ?
If you can do without the extra 4mm at the wide end you should consider it. Built like a tank, super sharp, fast AF, great contrast. So good they rarely come up.
You'll have to prise mine from my cold, dead hands.

Trev - do you do a daily search on the "beast" in these forums as it seems that everytime its mentioned your there :lol:

I briefly owned both the beast and 24-70 and wasn't blown away with either, tbh. It's just such a technically difficult focal range to produce good glass in. I sold both in favour of primes.
 
24-70 is outstanding and probably my most used lens. 10/10

My next buy once I get my D700:).
 
Does your wife know about this?! I'm sure there is treatment available. :)

I love the 24-70 but it does get heavy after a day of lugging it around. Maybe I need to invest in a decent strap?

Have there been any/many strap threads??

Seems like a whole new world to explore - better get some tea and sit down for a read....:)
 
I used to think it wasn't that big until I switched to using primes. Excellent lens though, very useful focal range and IQ is very good. I find the 70-200VRII much more cumbersome to carry around.
