Nikon Hippy??

I was shooting with a mate the other day, when he was approached by a guy who looked at his Nikon D3 and asked where are the hippy beads and sandals that all Nikon users have.
I have heard the "Nikon are the dark side" jokes but this was a new one on me, anybody heard the expression or know what it's supposed to refer to?

No he seemed fairly normal, and you'd never mistake either my mate or me for hippys, thats whats confused me, I wondered if there was an ad or something I'd missed.
