hi

I've googled this and done a forum search ( dont want to upset the forum police !)

is there such a thing as an in car charger that could re charge my Nikon D60 batteries ?

i did find one but it had been discontinued

thanks

Look for a Uniross Magic Charger at Amazon. That'll charge pretty much any LiIon camera or mobile phone battery from either the mains or a 12V supply. Clicky Link

surely they would drain your battery ?

thanks

If left on for a long period then yes, if I've forgotten to charge my battery I just plug it in while i'm driving, as your charger has a cutoff when fully charged i'd be amazed if charging a camera battery flattened your car battery.

with the invertor you can use it to charge other low wattage items, mobiles, laptops etc

I've seen these before but dont fully understand them , how do they work ? (laymans terms please ? :) ) surely they would drain your battery ?

thanks

Simply put, they convert the 12 volt DC supply from the car's electrics to 240V AC. You just plug your camera's battery charger into the 13A socket on the inverter. The car's battery will, indeed, be drained slightly, as its charge will be transferred to you camera battery, but this would be the case however you manage to connect up a camera battery charger. That said, the car's battery is of much higher capacity and if you do it while going along, the alternator in the car will more be more than capable of making up the difference.

I would always go for an inverter like this over a dedicated in-car camera battery charger. It would give you much more flexibility, especially if you change camera battery systems at any point in the future.

thanks for the replies

i reckon i'm going to get an invertor , looks like its quite a versatile thing as opposed to a dedicated charger

again thanks

Maplins had some good deals on 300 watt ones a while back, maybe be worth checking them.......

Ive always wondered why anyone would need to charge a battery on the move as it takes some doing to use batteries up during a single day (unless you using cheap ones) and most people carry 1-2 spares aswell just incase they go mental and take alot (at a BSB/BTCC weekend i usually take around 4000 pics) but even then they wouldnt be in any real need to charge on the fly.

I've got 2 batteries , but i was thinking along the lines of when we go camping and also we go to bike meetings for a couple of days

This thread does not make sense. You can buy a battery charger with a plug for your dashboard socket. What the heck has invertors got to do with anything.

If you have an inverter you can then charge or run anything (eg laptop) from the car battery.

Not all chargers have the correct plug anyways. My Canon ones don't.

this thread makes perfect sense (unusual if i'm involved)

I asked a question , then had several helpful replies with basically two different suggestions , I have now decided an invertor (something i was not familiar with before) now suits my needs more

what doesnt make sense ?
