Ok ok its not the most complicated thing in the world but I have got 2 of these and neither actually control the camera. I've hooked up a IR receiver to my scope and pointed the remotes at it and they are both pulsing but neither control the camera.

I've looked through the menu and cannot find a "turn on IR remote" option so I'm assuming it's on all the time.

So

Either both remotes are faulty
The camera is faulty
The D60 doesn't have IR despite it having what looks like an IR receiver
There is a menu option I missed
I am cracking up and need to sit in a dark room

Any ideas? Anybody got one that does work?

It's my daughter's camera. None of my Nikons are IR just the Canon.

Have you tried the camera with one of those universal tv remotes from the pound shop?

No, why does it appear as some kind of TV ?

There are so many sets of pulses and time frequencies and light frequencies wouldn't it be difficult to find one that the camera recognises as it's remote.

It's an old trick, I used one with my D80...

Where did you get the remotes you have atm, are they genuine ones?

Dunno if it helps as i've not used a d60 but on my d50 & d90 its under the settings for self timer, etc.

like he says you need to set the set it like that:)

I've found the setting which tells the D60 how long to leave the IR active for but I can't find any option to turn it on anywhere.

Under quick settings :: release mode :: IR remote :)

If memory serves me correctly you don't set it via a menu option, but via the drive mode settings (single shot, continuous shooting etc.).

I may be totally wrong, and sending you off on a wild goose chase, as it's been a few years since I used a remote with my D40x (which is essentially the same camera)

never used IR, I use either a cheapo cable from fleabay or a cheapo wireless trigger

I just needed to check whether I could activate it remotely :schtum:, I use RF602 transmitters on my own camera.
