Nikon J1 400 fps test, with a slight face plant!

Hello all!

I hope you've all had a great Christmas. I had a new toy, the Nikon J1, always indented to get one in Jan for snap shots, but my beloved got me one! :clap:

I had both my daughters on boxing day and we decided to do some playing with the slow motion feature

The general video on this thing is very very good, the 400 fps and 1200 fps video makes me fell like I did when I first discovered macro photography. Excited like I was discovering a new world! (or maybe I'm just strange... :shrug

It really is a great deal of fun! It's not going to replace entry level DSLR but it's not supposed to!

My wife had one of those LG Viewty phones that did slo mo video - we had great fun videoing the dogs playing with each other - looks brutal when slowed down - might have to dig it out again for a play

I've had a play with slow-mo on some of my climbing videos I've done. You camera seems to have captured it so much better than mine did. What frame-rate did you originally film at?

Orig rate really is at 400fps! It can do 1200 but needs lots of light and is quite low res.

Really? That's crazy! Can imagine it's low res though. And it looks so clear!

When I do it on my camcorder, I have to slow it down from 25fps using Twixtor and I always get trail lines from moving objects. But yours looks so tidy!

Twixtor is better used from 60fps, so well suited to canon DSLR.

Yeah, I've used my brothers 550D and it looks brilliant. Wouldn't mind trying with a GoPro as well

The GoPro works really well also! As far as I know the hero 2 will do 60fps and full 1080p!

Yeah, it looks really nice aswell. But if you're looking to really push it, it can go up to 120fps, but only in wvga so it's gonna look bad. But it's still 120fps!
