Yes
I have a Nikon D5000 and I've broken my 18-55 kit lens.
I have the Nikon f1.8 35mm and the 55-300VR so replacement is not urgent but I would like to replace it sooner rather than later. I don't really want to spend more than £150 on it so I'll most likely buy used.

This leaves me with a choice of 4:
Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G DX VR
Nikon AF-S 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED DX
Nikon AF-S 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
Nikon AF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED DX

Any thoughts on the relative merits of each?

Personally id look to add another £50 and buy a sigma or tamron f2.8 zoom. Worth the extra for a faster lens.

They both make good and bad lenses. You need to find what you're lookinfor then google reviews for the lens.
Some pixel peepers will whinge that they are crap, and to a certain extent you get what you pay for. But for the money I think they are well worth a punt.

There are 2 ( or were yesterday ) Tamron 17-50s non vc in the classifieds for less than £190 I think.

Great lens ( I have the vc version ) - the latest snail and flower pics in my photostream were shot with it.

Well worth the money

Based on your budget I'd have to go with the 18-105mm VR but would prefer to spend a but more for the tamron 17-50.

The first lens is just fine as are all of them if you apply the right amount of sharpening but obviously the advantage in light that the tamron has is a big help.

Thanks for all the advice.

I think I'll probably go with the 18-105 VR for the time being.
When I get a few quid then I might look at upgrading.
