I have a D300 together with a VRII 2.8 70-200 and have been lusting after similar quality lens as replacement for my 18-70 3.5-4.5 for a long long time now.
I finally have the oppertunity for such a thing but am unsure what to go for. You see, the thing is, I am often wishing the 18-70 could zoom out a bit more, and what with that being a DX lens, and the 2.8 24-70 being FX I'm not really sure thats the way forwards.
However, I'm also not sure that the 2.8 14-24 on a DX camera is going to zoom out enough more than the 18-70 does, and nor am I sure I want to loose that much range. In an ideal world I guess the 18-70 would be replaced by the 14-24 and the 24-70 - but this is not an ideal world - I only have the oppretunity for one new lens.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions what might be the best way forwards?
