Nikon lens/body problem.

Hello again, need some advice on a possible problem with a lens.

I bought a 18-135mm AF-S off eBay and it said in the listing it was 2nd hand but working fine.

Upon receiving it, I fired of a few test shots and intermittently it said on the display "no lens attached" even though it was securely on the mount.

I contacted the seller and he was very apologetic and told me to return it which I did. He contacted me today and said he was sending a replacement so no problems there either.

My concern is that he tells me that Nikon lenses and bodies have a history of incompatibility problems despite being the correct model/series etc.

Is this true?

Cheers.

Never heard this or have haf this problem, my guess would be dirty contacts on the lens or body.

+1

never heard of this either - infact its wrong, Nikon bodies and lens are very good at compatability, and any lost functionality is well published. Its sounds like dirty contacts & when one of my body/lens combinations started doing this a good clean solved the issue

did you clean the contacts, before you returned it

oops should have read post above

No I didn't.

I'm a white van man and one of my customers is a registered Nikon engineer so I had him look at it and he said the contacts and everything else on the surface looked ok so I guess it must be something on the inside is faulty.
