Looking for some help and advice please .....looking at a nikon 55 300m vr lens for my d5100...what im wanting it for is when im out fishing to try and get better closer shots of wildlife and skys ......is there better lenses out there for same sort of price or nikon fit lenses what are better ....not looking to spend more than £180 as i got a costly month ahead ....any help or advice as what to get and were best to get it from ......kev

I don't think there is another at that price range. I have a 55-200 and am happy with it.
 
I have the 55-300 on my D5000 and I love it.

The only thing is for real sharpness at full zoom you need to use a tripod and switch off the vr. I don't know how that will fit in with your fishing plans.

Here's a few sample shots.
You'll see a slight softness on #3 as I shot handheld at 1/500. For wildlife shots I tend to shoot at 1/1000 or higher so it works well handheld as in #1.
