Nikon Lens Issue?

Hi guys

Hope someone can help me I've been stuck indoors today so subsequently playing around with the camera. I thought I would do some photos with my Nikon 55-200 AF-S VR.

I noticed that when half press the shutter button and focus in and the AF point lights up, it drops, literally only a fraction, then raises up again when I let go of the shutter button. At first I thought it was me putting weight on the tripod but it definately does it. :(

This obviously isnt right (or is it ), is there a solution or will it need be repaired?

Thanks

What drops? The frame in the viewfinder?

Sounds like slightly faulty VR.

Sorry just had another look and yeah, the whole frame through the view finder drops a fraction, its rather frustrating to say the least!

Nikon's VR system centres the image (if using the centre focus point) at the time of shutter release ... maybe that's what you're seeing. I notice it sometimes with my 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.

If the camera is mounted on a tripod, the VR should be switched off. If it is not switched off, try switching VR off and see if you still see the same effect.

My VR lenses do the same, I think its just the VR kicking in.

Guys, thanks very much for the replies - I've had a look at my 18-55mm and it does the same so it must just be the way the VR kicks in.

I think the reason I've never noticed it is because when I use a tripod I switch the VR off and this time it was on!

So basically im idiot and worrying for no reason

Cheers
