Hi

I have a Canon full frame and need a wide angle since my 17-40L died. I only really make large landscapes prints and was never really satisfied with the corners on the 17-40.

I have read a lot of good reviews about the Nikon 16-35 f4 VR, particularly that it has better quality in the corners compared to the 17-40 and am now strongly considering it.

Manual focus does not bother me for my purposes as I only used this on the Canon anyway.

Anyone tried a Nikon to Canon adaptor and now how well they work? And if they would work on this lens on my 1DSmkII?

Blimey! I just checked the test results on SLRGear.com and the Nikon is properly sharp!
I can see why you want to look at this option.....
Back in the early days of the 5DII, most of the successful video clips were carried out with Nikon lenses; this gave full manual aperture - something we now take for granted. Point is that it is possible, and the adapter results were plenty good enough for demanding needs of cinematographic quality video. Dunno if if that means it's going to be as sharp as you are looking for - sorry.

Just a thought... If you aren't bothered about AF, then maybe you would get on without zoom?
Looking at a prime would offer you some lush choices.

I was also put off by the poor full-frame performance of the Canon wide angles and went for the 24mm TS-E - initially a second-hand Mk1 to see if TS-E was what I wanted and a new Mk2 once I confirmed it was exactly what I was looking for. The 24mm TS-E Mk2 is in a different league; for example it's significantly sharper wide open at f3.5 than all other Canon 24mm primes stopped down to f3.5 (including the f1.4). Paired with the 5DII the results are amazing! I usually zoom in to check sharpness and often with the TS-E I end up wondering why the zoom button has stopped working; it's because it is already zoomed to 100% and is so sharp it looks like it should go further!
 
The 16-35 is a G lens, so you'll have to get the special novoflex adapter that lets you change aperture on G lenses (G has no aperture ring).
