Good morning..question for people,does anyone have thoughts positive or otherwise re the purchase of either the Nikon 70-200 2.8 versus the Nikon 80-400
...currently using a D300 but aiming to go ff in the not too distant! Any views much appreciated. Steve w.

The 70-200 will focus much quicker than the 80-400, and is optically superior, but obviously does not have the reach.

The 70-200 will be a fair bit heavier than the 80-400.

If it is extra reach that you are after the 300 f4 AF-S + 1.4TC would be my suggestion rather than the 80-400, at around the same cost.

The 70-200 is so much more versatile and far better image quality than the 80-400 - 80-400 is okay if you don't need super-fast AF.
