I have just bought a AF-S 70-200mm f4G ED VR lens to go on my Nikon D800 camera. I cannot seem to get the autofocus to work.

Should it autofocus on this camera.

Further to my previous post. the switch on your lens should be set to A/M

Thanks for your replies, I set the camera and lens up again and found that by pressing the AF button on the back of the camera body the autofocus then worked with a half press of the shutter button and also pressing the AF button.

I had the lever on the front set to AF for my other lens and the switch on the lens to A/F. That what was throwing me as I had everything set up as I thought, so just a simple thing like pressing the AF button on the camera put everything right.

Have I got this right? To get your lens to autofocus, you have to press the AF button on the back of the camera AND the shutter button? Apologies if ive misunderstood.

Sounds like youve enabled BBF but not realised it... Somehow?

It will do the same with all lenses, not just that one, you shouldnt need to press the shutter button too though.
