Hi,

I am a Nikon shooter but might be upgrading to a canon 7D for the video capabilities.

Does anyone know if my AIS lenses will meter and will my DX and AFD lenses meter and autofocus? Also what modes should they work in?

If anyone is currently using nikon lenses on a canon body, what adapter are you using?

Many thanks

As far as I am aware, the only option to use Nikon lenses on a Canon is something like the Novoflex EOS adapter, which if I understand correctly has no form of electrical contacts in so you will get no autofocus, metering or anything else really.

if you need video capablity and have a big investment in Nikon lenses why not look at one of the newer Nikons with video - D300s seems a fair equal to the 7D

Nikon d300s video mode is only 720p and looks pretty bad.

i would just get a video camera but I'd have to spend alot more than the cost of 7D to get the same quality video and also I want to be able to control the dof which you cant really do on a video camera without spending a fortune.

Shame that nikon glass wont work.

I didn't think you could control the DOF on video without an appeture ring anyway? which the (newer) Nikon lenses won't have (don't know about the Canons)?

I'd of thought if you need that sort of high quality video you'd be best of making the investment

My AIS and afd lenses do have aperture rings, the aperture on the dx lenses would have to be held open with something.

I see where you're coming from but if i can get the same quality high bitrate video from a 7d as i can from a 20k video camera then its a no brainer. i wont have as many functions as a dedicated vid cam but i can live with that.

has anyone else got any experience using nikon lenses on a canon? someone must be doing it somewhere.

You can fit Nikon AI lenses to Canon EOS cameras and retain full metering capability. You need an adapter like this.

There's no chance of retaining autofocus though.
