where to buy a;
50mm AF-S f/1.4

wanting this lens for my D60 - best price so far is around the £270 mark....

any ideas the best/recomended place to buy? (and if any chance there is anywhere cheaper than that..?!)

thanks :)

If you are happy with buying used, Mifsuds has one in mint condition for £199

EDIT: sorry it's actually the D version

Why not go for this one Here:thumbs:

Oops not sure thats ok for the D60........though - NO the 50 1,4 AFd will not AF on a D60 -

used is ok....

but depends what the diff is between new and used price (willing to paya tad more for warranty)! :)

I got a new one from Gray's of Westminster last week, £289 which is more than you're quoting but there are few dealers with a better reputation.

do they have a website?

I can buy one after friday (cheque clearing) lol so if im still set on one then i will buy one whichever has the quickest delivery time..... :)

mifsuds and jacobs cheapest at the moment ask for free post and a filter

PM Kerso too. Although he seems mainly to deal Canon, he someties can get a good deal on Nikon stuff.

ok thank you :D

not buying anything until after friday as thats when i have ''the test'' so will post any rubbish pictures then make my final decision on which lens :)

It's a real shame they (nikon) hasn't got round to producing a f/1.8 AF-S 50mm - for £100 the current one is stunning, albeit not compatible with the newer breed of motorless bodies... Will be interested to see how the f/1.4 fares for the extra £150+ - have read differing reports about it, especially the ability to handle flare at f/1.4 - f/1.8...

ok please dont think im mentally insain but! if i buy a cheaper lens "to put me on" until after SLC pay me since last year *is mad*....how does this lens match up??

http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/19693/show.html

after payday i can buy a £400 lens..... but do really need one for this show but cant spend really over £150-£200....!!! (for the next month minimum - shows on the 20th!!!!) :(

The f/1.8 will be manual focus only for you, have you considered an AF-S 35mm f/1.8? It's a much more useable focal length than 50mm....

ok educate me....

manual focus means i physically have to focus the camera so its not blurry??

beginners worst nightmare????

Yeah, avoid the 50mm 1.8 on the D60. From the last thread the AF-S 35mm might be too short for your requirements. When chosing a Nikon lens always look for the letter "S" after the AF. That S tells you it has an internal Silent motor. The D60 needs this or you're manually focusing (to prevent blurry images!).

AF-S all the way! So that means your choices in fast lens are:

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4
Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8

I'm not sure if the 35mm is too short for your needs, but it is much cheaper than the 50mm 1.4. I would need to be there and see shots to really judge what you should buy

Oh, and when looking where/who to buy it off, I'll say it again, PM Kerso!!! He sometimes does good deals on nikon products. And he's very trustworthy to buy off :)

i can have shots for you friday night?

:)

35mm might be pushing it but i will put the current lens on it and see how i go with that.....then again cropping??? may reduce the quality though..?

long term though - no way. will need a 50+ (this is where student loan comes in haha)....
